DAMAGE BY CYCLONE
TWO MINING TOWNS DEBRIS LITTERS THE STREETS RESIDENTS TERRIFIED (Received January 17, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 17 A cyclone last night struck the mining towns of Kearney and Abernethy on the northern coalfields of New South Wales. Three houses were almost, demolished and several others were completely unroofed. Considerable damage was done to shop windows. The electric current failed and the streets of the itowns were littered with iron and other debris. Residents were terrified. Their troubles were accentuated by drenching rain. Nobody wai> seriously hurt, although many people had lucky escapes.
