RETIRED BISHOP

DEATH OF DR. E. A. KNOX (Received January 17, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 17 The death is announced of Dr. Edmund Arbuthnott Knox, a former Bishop of Manchester. Dr. E. A. Knox was born at Bangalore, India, in December, 1847, and was educated at St. Paul's School, London, and at Oxford University. He was ordained in 1872 and was a Fellow, Tutor and Dean of Merton College, Oxford. In 1894-190:5 he was Suffragan Bishop of Coventry and in the latter year he became Bishop of Manchester. He retired in 1921. He had published many books, chiefly on religion.
