The Clifden Racing Club's meeting resulted in a loss.of £3OO to the Riverton Centenary Committee, which guaranteed the stakes. Jack Ahoy, who started twice without reward at tho Wairio meeting on Saturday, is to bo treated to a wellearned spell. A big gelding, the holiday should be beneficial. After a long absence Niggerhead. made a reappearanee at the Clifden and Wairio meetings, but ran undistinguished races. He is now held on lease by G. McLean, Riverton. The aged Paper Money gelding Bond broke a blood vessel when running in the Lilburn Handicap at the Clifden Racing Club's meeting, and he has been returned to his owner at Winton. A comparatively unseasoned performer, Ardchoille, failed to sustain a fast-run mile at the Clifden meeting, but in tho slowly-run Wairio Cup he profited by the experience gained earlier in tho week and won from a field with few staying pretensions. Allegations that in some instances acceptance lists were "packed" on the West Coast of the South Island circuit have been made, and it is stated that in one case an acceptance was challenged by the stipendiary steward, the upshot being that the horse was debarred .from starting.
