ASSAULT ALLEGED
WOMAN IN HOSPITAL WELLINGTON MAN REMANDED [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] WELLINGTON, Saturday Charges of assaulting Maisie Pepper so as to cause bodily harm, and of committing mischief by wilfully damaging four panes of glass and two leadlights, talued'at £2 4s, were preferred against Michael Francis Carrick, in the Wellington Police Court to-day. By consent, a remand was granted until January 27. Sub-inspector Dempsey said the woman alleged to have been assaulted by Carrick was admitted to the Wellington Hospital. Her condition was not now thought to be serious, as at first believed. She would probably be able to leave hospital in a few days. Accused was known to the police and worked on the waterfront. Bail was fixed at £25, with one surety ef £2-5. MAORIS AT KAITAIA TWO OFFENDERS IX COURT [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] KAITAIA, Saturday Two natives were charged with assault iri the Kaitaia Police Court yesterday before 'Mr. G. N. Morris, S'.M Johnny Wright, of Parapara, pleaded guilty to assaulting another Maori and was finnel L~t, in default one month's imprisonment. Mac I'ukeroa, of Ahipara,. for assaulting another native, was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment.
