SIMPSON'S ACTION r WOMAN AS DEFENDANT By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received January it, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. in A writ for alleged slander has been issued by Mr. Ernest Simpson against Mrs. Joan Sutherland, wife j of Colonel Arthur Sutherland. Tlui I action is based on words alleged to have been uttered concerning the divorce proceedings instituted by Mrs. Simpson. Mr. Simpson has been living ! lately at the Guards' Club, Brook , Street, London. Colonel Sutherland is a director of several tea companies and at present : is on his way to India. His wife is , described by the Daily Mail as slim and dark, about 35 years old. She is I said to have left London for Scotland J to-night. The case in which Mrs. Simpson sought the dissolution of her marriage, with her second husband, Mr. Ernest Simpson, on the grounds of misconduct, was not defended, and a decree nisi was granted to the petitioner on October 27. In 1935 Mr. and Mrs. Simpson were frequent guests at Fort Belvedere, and Mrs. Simpson accompanied tho former King on his cruise in tho yacht Nahlin.
