MOTORIST GAOLED
INTOXICATION ADMITTED SENTENCE OF THREE WEEKS [by telegraph-—press association] W E LLING TO N, Th u rati ay Describing the case as one which gave him no alternative but to impose a term of imprisonment, Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., to-day sentenced Norman Francis Sand brook, aged 29, labourer, to three weeks' imprisonment for being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car. Accused pleaded guilty. The police said that at about 1 a.m. on January 7 accused's car collided with several verandah posts in Willis Street, carrying them away and bringing down the verandah, which broke three plate-glass windows. The car continued, but was stopped by a taxidriver, who removed tho ignition key. The police then arrived, and a medical examination at tho station showed that accused was unfit to drive. Extensive damage was done to the car. Accused's driving licence was suspended until May 31.
