HOTEL INCIDENT

MAN FOUND IN BAR QUESTION OF SOBRIETY [by TF.LECRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION'] WELLINGTON", Thnrsday As a rosult of being found in the small hours of Christmas morning in the bar of the Victoria Hotel, Joseph Turner, aged 44, rigger, was charged in the Police Court yesterday with breaking, entering and theft. The licensee, in evidence, said accused lived ne?ct door. Accused was in the bur hefore closing time, dressed in a. singlet and dungaree trousers. Earlier in the evening accused was fairly drunk and. in witness' opinion, was not sober when he was luter found in the bar, as otherwise he would have taken the opportunity of freedom offered when he was asked to produce stolen money. Accused did not seem to understand the nature of the offence.

Accused pleaded not. guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was renewed.
