NORTH AUCKLAND AREA CONTINUOUS SUPPLY SHORTLY [ JJY TKI.KGII.VI'H —OWN CORRESPONDENT] DARG AV ] LLE, Tli 11 rsdn y A continuous supply of power in the North Auckland Electric-Power Board's area should lie available by next Monday or Tuesday, according to a statement, made at the monthly meeting of the board by the chairman, Mr. .1. A. McLean, who said he had received advice from the Public Works Department that the continuous supply would be given as soon as the department s work was completed. The attitude which the board should adopt regarding the proposed carnival week in connection with the official switching on of power was discussed and it was derided to fix the date at February 115 and to ask the Minister of Public Works, Hon. IE Semple, if he could be present. The chairman said that, in view of the infantile paralysis epidemic, it was possible the function would have to be postponed. In reply to the chairman, the engineer, Mr. T. IE Overton, said it would probably take hint a month or six weeks to complete the installation ol the community lighting. Installations were being held up at present because of the lack of men. A letter was received from Mr. D. A. Williams, of Kawakawa, stating that the Minister of Public Works had agreed to the formation of a northern power board district. It was decided to offer assistance in any way possible. Congratulations to the engineer on his success in bringing electric power to Dargaville for Christmas were expressed in a motion carried bv the board. Mr. E. G. Appleton said the engineer had had to contend with the 40-hour week and delays in the de'liverv of material. Congratulations should be extended to the whole staff.
