RAILWAY DUPLICATION
PAPAKURA TO HOROTIU WORK AT MANY POINTS [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Thursday About 200 men are employed on the duplication of the main trunk railway line between Horotiu and Papakura, to complete the duplication between Frankton Junction and Auckland. Iho preliminary formation between Horotiu and Xgaruawahia is completed, and rails have been laid for a mile and ahalf.
A bridge is being built over the railwnv crossing at Hopuhomi. Work on the formation of the tracK is proceeding at Drury, Ohinewai, and Taupiri. The tunnel at Mercer lias been removed anil the track at this point has been widened and straightened. The stations at Taiipiri, Ohinewai, and .Xgaruawahia will be changed to the "island" type with lines on both sides. An interlocking signal system will be installed throughout. the length. The Frankton Junction shunting yards and engine accommodation are being improved by the expenditure of £IO,OOO, and work on this project has commenced.
