Advertisements for experienced workers have lately drawn no response. When the factories in Dunedin closed for 10 days over Christmas and New Year, many of this class of employee extended their holidays by a week without notification, but so acute is the shortage that employers could not afford to dispense with their services, as might have been the sequel in ordinary circumstances.
