Mr. 1). T. Allan, of AVanganui, district telegraph engineer, who for the past seven years has been in charge of both the Wanganui and New Plymouth districts, has retired on superannuation.

Major A. W. Short, V.D.. of the Third Cadet Battalion, North Auckland Regiment, has been posted to the retired list, with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform.
Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf, for 30 years n member of the staff of the Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, and acting-director for the past year, is now, a. member of the board of governors of the college as the representative of the Governor-General.
Mr. W. A. Sawyer, postmaster at Waipawa, has received notice of bi» promotion to take charge of the Marton office. Mr. Sawyer "ill leave to take up his new duties at the end of tha month, after having been stationed in Waipawa for over four years.
Mr T. H. McCombs, M.P. for Lvtteltori is attending the meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science as representative of the Minister in charge of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan.
