CITY BUS TERMINAL
THE OLD STATION SITE PROGRESS OF CONSTRUCTION Although little impression can be pained as yet of the final appearance of the municipal transport terminal on tho old railway station site, good progress is being made with the preliminary work which is being carried out by the engineer's department of the City Council. It will probably be another six months before the buildings, platforms and other facilities of the terminal are completed. The main part of the work proceeding at present is tho construction of the reinforced concrete columns for the main building. This is to be a singlestoreyed structure, providing office accommodation for the various transport services, together with public facilities, such as waiting rooms, cafeteria and shops. The other main part of the work will be the construction of a long loading platform which will accommodate under cover eight service cars and 11 buses simultaneously during ordinary hours. There will be accommodation for 15 additional buses during peak loading hours, with further provision for the parking of an extra 15 buses. Roadways, a parking area and turning space are also provided for in the plans and will have to be formed and paved in concrete. When it was decided to proceed with the provision of the bus terminal, the Citv Council determined to have the work done by employed labour rather than by letting a contract. As a result the whole of the operations are being carried out under the control of tho city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler.
