REEFTON RACES
FIRST DAY FIELDS ACCEPTORS FOR TO-MORROW SIX IN CHIEF CONTEST [BY TELKOKAIM1 —I'ltlvSS ASSOCIATION"] WELLIN(iTON, Wednesday Acceptances for the first day of the Reefton Jockey Club's Summer Meeting, to be held on Friday and Saturday, are as follows: —
NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP When Viking bent; a smart field of splinters in the Flying Handicap at Invercargill, lie took liis first winning slake for 12 inontlis, lie led all the way, but Gold Boa defeated liint easily on'the second day, at level weights, in record time for the course. Queen of Song won the invercargill (!up immediately prior to scoring in the Wellington Cup last year. The Jnvercargill winner this year was Guarantee, who scored well after a trulyrun race, but his breeding does not suggest that he would win over a mile and'Vhalf against a field of fit horses. It is suggested in a southern exchange that the reason why Wotan was not nominated for the Wellington meeting was the enforcement of the 7.7 minimum. The last time he was handicapped in Australia, following his win in the Cup, was at 8.8 on the (3.7 minimum, and he is being prepared for another trip to Australia. The veteran jockey, J. W. Jennings, rode three winners in four mounts on Ibe first day of the Southland Racing Club's meeting, but the best riding performance during the holiday racing was that of A. Jenkins, who does most of his riding over hurdles, but who distinguished himself at Awapuni by scoring on The Bigot, Charade and The Buzzer in successive events. Ever since lie made his first appearanco at Masterton in October, Diamond Cutter had looked certain to break his maiden status at an early date, but he had to pass through a period of mixed luck before winning the Pirinoa Stakes at Tauherenikau. lie is a good-looking three-year-old chestnut colt by Lackham from the Bisogne—Musical Moment mare Royal Queen, a half-sister to Tupurangi, Maestro, and Royal King, and he is being raced on lease by Mr. H. J. Harman, of Lower Hutt, whoso colours Gay Court formerly carried.
