BUTTER BOXES
WHITE PINE DIMINISHING PROBLEM FOR THE INDUSTRY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Tho problem of finding sufficient sup- ] plies of butter-box containers .was re- ' ferred to at a meeting of tho South j Auckland Dairy Association to-day. Mr. I S. A. Ferguson presided. Mr. M. A. Scott wrote asking for the support of the dairy companies in foiming a co-operative box-making company. He stated that boxes could be manufactured much more cheaply than tho present prices. It was decided to reply that, in view of the diminishing supplies of accessible white pine, such a scheme would not be practicable. Exception was taken to the action of the Government in banning the use of mill-board boxes, except under special permit. Mr. J. E. Leeson (Morrinsviile) said his company had used 600,000 wire-bound saronac boxes in six 'years, and had had to pay less than £2 in compensation. Mr. C. J- Parlane (New Zealand Co--1 operative Dairy Company, Limited) | said his company had used 10,000,000, ! and its claims account was in credit, j Mr. J. E. West (Hinuera): \\ e have ' had no complaints. i It was mentioned that the supplies I of white pine in the North Island were I inaccessible, while those m the South ! Island were too costly to transport to I the Waikato. i It, was decided to bring the subject ' before a conference of tho industry, to ; be held next month, before making furj tlier representations to the Co\ern- | nien^'
