ENGAGEMENT BROKEN OFF LONDON OPERA SINGER (Received January 3. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. '2 The engagement of the opera singer Mr. William Parsons and the New Zealand pianist Miss Marjorie Alexander, has been broken off four days after it was announced. Miss Alexander formerly well known in musical circles in Christchurch. In 1931 she won a scholarship) olfered by the Associated Board of the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music, which entitled her to two years' tuition in England. In order to provide her with further financial assistance, Christchurch musical societies made generous offers and concerts were arranged.
