FISHING MARRED

TQNGARIRO RIVER * FLOOD CONDITIONS [bt telegbaph—OWN cobbespondext] TURANGI, Friday Four days of almost continuous rain have completely spoiled New Year holiday fishing in the Tongariro River, within reacli of which unusually large numbers of anglers and other visitors have been encamped in lodges and tents for a week past. The river was fishable until Thursday, but since then has been in flood and very discoloured. Anglers who braved the weather to fish from the lake shore have made moderate catches with the fly, but rain has kept the majority in camp and has discouraged trolling on the lake. The conditions showed no sign of improvement this afternoon, but it is expected fishing will be possible in the river about two days after the rain ceases.
