SPORT FOR TO-DAY

FINAL DAY'S RACING YACHTING AND CRICKET Although rain has caused the postponement of many sports fixtures arranged for the last two days, there is st ill a wide variety ,of attractions offering to-day. Many events which had to be abandoned yesterday are being decided to-dav, but in some cases sports bodies have decided not to risk another postponement and have held tlieir programmes over until they are assured of finer weather. Large crowds are expected at Ellerslie for the last day of the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting, which is expected to provide a fitting finale to the successful carnival of New Year racing, while, if the weather shows any sign of improvement, excursion cruises to the different harbour resorts also should be well patronised. Yachting enthusiasts will be well catered for at the Maraetai regatta, while the llocky Bay regatta, which was postponed from Thursday, also will be held to-day. The Auckland B team will meet the South Auckland representatives in the continuation of the provincial crickettournament at Eden Park, while another good'match should be that between a Suburban Association team and Poverty Bay. Post-section play in the Auckland Centre's annual Christmas tournament, will he continued at the Carlton Bowling Club, while the Balmoral Club will proceed with its New Year tournament. Bowlers at Onehunga will continue with the ordinary draw. After two postponements, the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association will proceed with its annual handicap tournament at the Windmill Road courts. With those desiring a pleasant day at the seaside, Milford. with its largo new swimming pool and many facilities for picnics, should prove very popular, while others will prefer the beaches nearer the city on the southern shores of the harbour. The New Zealand beach motor-cycle championships will bo decided at Muriwai to-morrow, when many of the competitors who entered for the Tourist Trophy race at Waiheke will take part.
