KING JOHN'S TREASURE

EXPEDITION TO THE WASH ENDEAVOUR TO LOCATE (Received December 29, 5.0 p.tn ) PARIS, Dec, 2f> Professor Emerich Herzdfe, a Viennese water-diviner, has arranged for an expedition in 193" for the purpose of locating King John's treasure in the Wash. He will use four simple instruments, chiefly a locket containing gold j suspended from a rod. The Wash is a shallow bay on the Lincolnshire and Norfolk coast, of England. It is a remnant of a much larger bay and is gradually being filled with sediment from the rivers which drain into it. From time to time portions are reclaimed. King John was reputed to have accidentally lost some treasures in 1216 in the former dangerous passage of the marsh lands which were liable to irruptions of the tide.
