DEATH ON THE ROADS
Sir, —1 have just read the sub-leader in the Herald of December 26 under the above heading, wherein it is stated "none can view without disquiet the grim list of road casualties with which the holidays have opened." It surprises me to find that the Herald can be so subdued in discussing this criminal business. If the powers that be would only do their duty and so deal with motorists involved in accidents that others would be impressed without difficulty, accidents would cease in one month. This could be done with the aid of existing legislation, but I would like to see it made mandatory for a magistrate to consign the Juggernaut drivers to gaol without the option of a fine, and make it quite impossible for any person so convicted ever to hold a driver's licence again. Chas. Bailey.
