TRAIN STRIKES CAR

TRAGEDY NEAR MELBOURNE TWO PEOPLE KILLED (Received December 27, 11.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dee. 27 A mother and her 23-year-old daughter were killed and the daughter's fiance was seriously injured when a train wrecked a baby car at a level crossing at Carrum, 20 miles from Melbourne, this morning. Those killed were Mrs. Ruby Wilde, aged 41, and Miss Alice Wilde, and the injured man was Mr. Kenneth Crowhurst, aged 25. Pieces of the motor-car were scattered 70 feet along the track. The daughter was killed instantly and the mother died in hospital. Mr. Crowhurst was driving the party to a picnic at Frankston, six miles further along the line. The police were informed that the motor-car appeared to have raced the train to the crossing.
