CRICKET IN AUSTRALIA
SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCHES GOOD BOWLING BY LUSH (Received December 27, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 27 Til the Sheffield Shield match nt Melbourne yesterday against New' South Wales, Victoria made 318 runs in the first innings after having made 315 for seven wickets (Rigg 100, Hassott 83, Ledward 60, Barnett, 45). Lush took five wickets for 74 and McGilvray three for 35. New South Wales replied with 252 (Mudge 46, Jackson, 46). Fleetwood Smith took five wickets for 110, labeling two for 41, and Gregory two for 41. Lush, who is having his first game in a shield match, bowled particularly well. Victoria in the second innings had scored 16 runs for no wickets when stumps wore drawn. At Adelaide South Australia made 294 runs against Queensland (Hammence 101, Grimmett. 33). Amos took five wickets for 83. Queensland in the first innings scored 205 (Tallon 101, Oxenliam, not out, 43). Grimmett took three wickets for 89, Cotton, two for 35, and Williams, five for 29. In the second innings South Australia had lost two wickets for 46 at stumps.
ENGLISH TEAM NORTHERN DISTRICTS GAME RAIN PREVENTS PLAY (Received December 27, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 27 Heavy rain yesterday prevented play in the first clay of the match between the English cricketers and a Northern Districts team. MATCH IN INDIA EUROPEANS VERSUS HINDUS LARWOOD UNSUCCESSFUL (Received December 27, 5.5 p.m.) BOMBAY, Dec. 20 In the match Europeans versus Hindus at Bombay to-day, Larwood took no wickets for 45 runs. At stumps the Hindus had scored 292 and the Europeans 19 for no wickets.
