BOXING CONTEST MATCH ON SATURDAY NIGHT MUDGWAY MEETS AUSTRALIAN Tho Auckland Boxing Association will stage another carnival next Saturday nicrlit, when Auckland patrons and visitors will be treated to what should be one of (lie best professional welter-weight contests staged in New Zealand this season. Special holiday prices have been arranged by the association, with concessions for ladies ami schoolboys, details of which arc advertised. The bout is between the latest importation to New Zealand, Billy Martin, of Queensland, rated next to Jack Carroll, and holding two decisions over Cyril Pluto, who greatly assisted this year to tiring boxing back to its former popularity. Martin has had 108 contests and has suffered but four defeats. Neville Mudgway will be the other contestant. This Auckland champion and exNew Zealand welter-weight champion has: had more professional flights in New Zealand this season than any other boxer. He has always put up good exhibitions and on numerous occasions has been unlucky in losing close decisions. He has met all the imported boxers at his weight, including Cyril I'luto and Bill Pluto, both of whom refused to meet him in further contests, although attractive offers were made to them. Owing to tho special conveniences at the Auckland gymnasium both men are training there. Mudgway at p.m. each day and Martin at 7..'id each evening this week. These training exhibitions are open to the public. An excellent amateur programme has been arranged and attention is drawn to the fact that the box plans are open earlier than usual on account of the holidays.
