SLOOP WELLINGTON
VISIT TO DAEGAVILLE LONG TRIP UP RIVER OFFICIAL CALLS PAID [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Monday The first warship to visit the Kaipara Harbour, the sloop Wellington, arrived at Dargaville early this evening after a trip of 4£ hours from Pouto, at the entrance to the Northern Wairoa River. For the journey up the river the sloop was in the charge of Captain C. V. Stanich, the harbourmaster, and no trouble was experienced at any stage of the journey. By courtesy of Commander J. B. E. Hall schoolchildren at Pouto were enabled to visit and inspect the ship during the time she dropped anchor at noon and when she sailed on the turn of the tide at 2.30 p.m. Official calls were paid this evening by Mr. F. A. Jones, Mayor of Dargaville, Mr. J. M. Totich, Yugoslav Consul for New Zealand, Dr. C. H. Crump, port medical officer, and Major M. de R. Petrie, officer commanding military units. Mr. E. G. Appleton represented the Hobson County Council in the absence of the chairman, Mr. C. Trouson.
