Horowhenua was given a trial over tho pony hurdles at Ellerslie yesterday, but his display was not- impressive. Hidden by M. Kearns, ho blundered through the first obstacle and showed slight improvement at his next few attempts. Horowhenua will require a good deal more practice beforo ho becomes proficient. In addition to introducing an aspiring light-weight jockey to the Dominion, P. T. Hogan brought back with him a dog of peculiar talent. Finding that a certain breed was in demand in Victoria at 10s lesson as "heelers" to induce thoroughbreds to face the barrier obediently, the South Canterbury trainer acquired a dog for use at Washdyke. Australians in London, seeing a horse called Don Bradman listed in the Grand Sefton Steeplechase, run at Aintrce, speculated a few pounds on him.
