DEDUCTIONS PERMITTED DECISION OF THE COURT £BT TF.LKGRA.rH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] WELLINGTON*, Tnesday The Arbitration Court to-day announced that it had decided that deductions can be made by an employer from the male or female basic wage under the New Zealand licensed hotels employees' agreement if the employer supplies a worker with lodgings or board or both. The amount the employer is permitted to deduct from the wages in consideration of supplying these services is the amount prescribed in the agreement as being their value. The same principles are applicable to the Wellington Tea Rooms and Restaurant Employees Award, vrhich makes provision for the supply of meals and, in some cases, lodgings to workers.

The announcement was made :in ® reserved decision on applications for an interpretation of the agreement and the award heard bv the Court last week.
