DEMAND FOR WOOL
BEST FOE MANY IYEARS POSITION SHOULD CONTINUE SOUNDER INTERNATIONAL TRADE The general world demand for wool is, at the moment, greater than it has been for years, and traders jn London suggest that the favourable conditions should long continue. Some brokers, in comparing present conditions with the 1921 boom, find to-day's position even more promising than then. The steady improvement in international trade enables people to spend more on clothing, resulting in the consumption of tremendous quantities of Merino wool in good-class wear for under and outer The rearmament plans have involved the reeniitment of thousands of additional men in the various countries' navies, armies and air forces and their uniforms arc absorbing great quantities of almost every type of crossbred, while medium and fine crossbreds are used for making cloths for those unable to afford the better type of Merino suitiilgs and dress goods.
Another source of demand has been created by the demolition of property and the erection of new dwellings. More carpets, blankets, upholstery and fabrics are needed to equip such dwellings. Wool is also being more, widely used in furnishing the upholstery fabrics for seating purposes in trains, hotels, motor-cars and ships. Bradford and other centres to-day find themselves with an almost unparalled paucity of stocks, whereas in 1921, 2,500,000 of Bawra bales, in addition to a South African and South American accumulation, were available for disposal. Wool traders now wonder if Yorkshire is obtaining sufficient wool to meet the coming requirements.
