ASKED TO RESIGN

PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD RATEPAYERS' PETITION RULING BY CHAIRMAN ENTIRELY OUT OF ORDER A petition signed by 60 ratepayers, addressed to the clerk of the Papakura Town Board, asking the members of the board to resign, as the petitioners \tere dissatisfied with the conduct of the board's affairs, came before the board at its meeting last night. The chairman, Mr. H. E. McEntee, after the petition was received, declined to allow any discussion. Air. McEntee said that as the petition was not addressed to him as chairman ho would rule no discussion to take place on the matter. The petition was entirely out of order. Iwo members of the board, Messrs. D. Weir and H. D. Spinley, had signed it and it was therefore a personal matter to those gentlemen. Mr. Weir: What becomes of the petition then P The Chairman: Nothing as far as I am concerned. Mr. H. Bartels: Treat it as a joke. Mr. Spinley: My name appears on tho petition. Mr. McEntee: Well, this board is not going to discuss it. Mr. Weir: I move the petition bo posted back to those responsible. The Chairman: Oh, no, the petition is now the property of the board. "I sijsned the petition on the grounds that the board is not being managed properly," said Mr. Weir. "Not until the board reverts to the system of committees will it function properly. We appear here as a rabble. The business of the board should be considered by properly constituted committees, and they in turn should make recommendations to the board. Mr. G. W. Kerr: I rise to a point of order. "Sit down, Mr. Kerr," said Mr. Weir. The Chairman: Mr. Kerr's point of order is upheld. What Mr. Weir is discussing is not before the board. Mr. Weir: He'll bring a point of order that won't be upheld before long. The matter dropped.
