NEW STOCK ROUTE
NGATEA TO MANGATARATA OPENING UP CROWN LAND [BY TKLKGRAI'H —OWX CORRKSPONDKNT] THAMES, .Monday The necessity of providing a clay road between Ngatea and Mangatarata as a stock route and as access to certain sections was urged by Mr. C. W. Parfitt, chairman of the Hauraki Plains County Council, in a deputation to the Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, this afternoon. Mr. Parfitt said the road was the Orchard West Road and there was 42 miles which wanted attention. The road would assist in opening up a large area of Crown land, and eventually would become the main route to Auckland from Ngatea, as it saved 11 miles on the journey. It was also necessary for a stock route and would relieve the congestion on the main highway from Npatea to Waitakaruru. The Minister said he was most favourably impressed with the proposition. He liked the idea of further development, and under his department's policy the roads would not only be clayed but also metalled. He would bring the proposition into the progressive development of the Hauraki Plains scheme, and advice of this would be sent to the council at an early date. Before the deputation withdrew one speaker said that the new road would carry from 500 to 600 head of stock a week all the year round.
