SECOND SERIES ENDED MANUKAU DEFEATED BY R.V. BRIXTON TEAM SUCCESSFUL Conditions wore perfect iit the Domain on Saturday, when the Auckland C'itv and Suburban Cricket Association ((included the .second series of matches in the first round of its senior competition. The defeat of Manukau by K.V. "was a feature of the play. R.V., which made l.'U in its first innings, dismissed Manukau for 92 on a fast wicket, which should have suited the batsmen. Green Lane proved too solid for Hoskill, which, however, showed improvement in the second innings. Green Lane won on the first innings. .Brixton, which was the lowest team in the competition last season, scored a popular win over I'onsonhv on the first innings. All the winning teams secured four championship points each. The highest individual score of the day was made by J. Langdon. Hoskill, who compiled <i(i. Others to hat well were:—.T. Rose, R.V., 33. Howling for Brixton K. Stallworthy registered a good performance by taking five wickets for 20 runs. Others to obtain good averages were:—W. Robertshaw, Ponsonb.v, three for 21; F. SUPERIORITY OF BOWLERS SECRET OF R.V.'S SUCCESS R.Y.'s bowlers, Wildnian and Finlayson. were definitely on top throughout Manukau's first innings, which was resumed' with two wickets down for 27. R.V. had compiled 131 in its first innings. From the start on Saturday it was apparent- Manukau was up ajxainst a stiff proposition. Dunning and Londrum found Wildnian very accurate and the fast howler quickly sent Lendrum and Williams back to the pavilion. Dunning made a stand and carried his total to 25. Wickets fell rapidly before Waters hit out at the bowlers and added a useful 35 not out. His score included six fours. The remainder of the Manukau batsmen failed badly and the total reached only 02. R.V. in its second innings compiled 161 for the loss of eight wickets. Bright, batting by Rose, 33. and Cloke, 36. was a feature of the game. Cloke hit four fours and two sixes.
