EMPIRE SETTLEMENT
ADVOCACY BY BISHOP CHURCH'S INTEREST URGED LONDON, Nov. 17 A strong appeal for greater interest by the Church in Empire settlement was made by the Bishop of London, Dr. Winnington Ingram, at the Church Assembly. Ho said: "The question is related to the welfare of the young people of Great Britain. If we lose their confidence by any seeming lack of interest in their lives we simply hand them over to the Communists. "Since the Gieat War, Britain has spent millions of pounds in keeping men alive and subsidising them in their idleness. it would be better to spend the money in developing Empire settlement, thus enabling voting people to take up healthy work and lead useful lives. "It is dangerous to have a huge empty Empire in a land-hungry world. The National Church should help the nation," said Dr. Ingram. ENGLISH LEGISLATION PROPOSAL TO EXTEND LONDON, Nov. 17 In the House of Commons to-day Mr. Malcolm Mac Donald, Dominions Secretary, stated that shortly he would- introduce a bill to extend the Empire Settlement Act beyond May 31, 1937. It would embody amendments on recommendations of the Overseas Settlement Board.
