NEW PLYMOUTH WORK CARDSHARPER GOES FREELY GOOD SPRINT BY AUSSIE RA [from our own correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday The tracks at New Plymouth were in splendid order for training yesterday. Tho plough, and tho courso proper, with tho lltigs out about 30 feet, wei-3 used. On the course proper, To Huia and Cute Melody shaped nicoly over half a mile in 52Js. Te Huia may need experience, but he shaped well at Waver ley. Red Sand, Royal Secret and Mustang were on terms at tho end of five furlongs in 1.5. Cardsharper and Eagle's Eyo hopped off well ahead of Bantry at tho five furlongs and led him all the way Cardsharper drawing out in tho straight to beat Eagle's Eye by a length in 1.5. Cardsharper and Eagle's Eyo will probably be taken to Levin. i'ingsido displayed fine pace for a maiden by beating the Clarinda maro comfortably over half a mile in 525. There was little between Drathula and the Rillet filly at the end of three furlongs in 40 l-ss. Both two-year-olds shaped pleasingly. Lady Kyra was too good for Bonny Glow over five furlongs and she beat her companion by over a length in 1.75. Lady Kyra carried out her task in a pleasing manner. Grateful completed a round of pace work by dashing home over the last two furlongs in 255. Ho is in capital order. On tho plough, High Test covered seven furlongs comfortably in 1.36, the last three taking 40s. Ho was under restraint most of the way, but finished strongly. Mowgli and Tahurangi occupied 2.20 for a mile and a-quartar on the same track, the last three furlongs taking 40s. Refresher infused plenty of dash into his work over two circuits, sprinting home the second time from the two furlongs in 27<js. Aussie Ra and Davistock were responsible for a smart gallop over six furlongs in 1.16 4-5, tho last five in 1.2 4-5. High Test and Refresher ran six furlongs on tbe plough this morning in 1.17, both finishing strongly. High Test is >'n good order. Winsome Lu is not making the trip to Te Rapa. SPEEDY THREE-YEAR-OLD CARDSHARPER FOR LEVIN

The three-year-old Cardsharper created a good impression when he scored at his first start, in the Jackson Memorial Stakes at Waverle.v last month, being in front practically throughout and running tho five furlongs on a dead track in 1.2 1-5. The *ace is likely to have benefited Cardsharper, who possesses brilliant speed, and he is sure to have a good following if produced at Levin on Saturday, when he has two engagements in the hack sprint events. Cardsharper is an upstanding gelding by Paper Money from Tinihanga, by Absurd from Formless, by Multiform from Dreamer, by Mostyn, so that ho belongs to the family that produced Bon Reve, Havering and other good winners. Shuffle, dam of the Stewards' Handicap winner Paper Slipper, is a half-sister to Cardsharper.

In the 1922-23 season ho visited New Zealand, but did not show his true form. Globo Derby is tho siro of Walla Walla and Auburn Lad, 2.2 2-5; New Derby, 2.2}; and Evicus, 2.3. Others of his stock to enter tho 2.10 or better list were: Logan Derby, Dalla Derby, Star Princess, Vondome, Globepool, Graceful Derby, Princo Derby and David Belmont.
