HUNTING LODGE FIT FIVE FURLONGS BY PADNOS JUVENILES DISPLAY SPEED [from OUR OWN" correspondent] PALMEItSTON NORTH, Wednesday Splendid conditions were offering at Awapuni for training on the outside of the course proper yesterday, the tracks having dried up materially. Vonia Park (G. Tattersall) ran the Inst three of seven furlongs in 42 2-os. Ho was travelling well within himself at the close, ingenuity (Chaplin), in a similar task, came home in 40 2-os. Martara did pace work on the plough. He struck himself when running in the paddock and his trainer has removed his shoes.

Gay Molly (L. A. Pine), who will race at Feikling, ran three furlongs in 41. 3-ss. Alloa (S. Anderson) strode along from the six furlongs post, but bo was not .out for time, tho last three furlongs taking 4.'is. Severe (W. J. Broughton) and Hound Score (S. Anderson) jumped away at tbe mile, Mirth (Pino) picking them up at tho six furlongs. They ran together along the back, but on tho turn, Mirth went to the front and beat the other two.. The mile was run in 1.51. Padnos (Chaplin) covered his' first three furlongs in 39s and five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. A splendid track worker, ho does not always repeat it with tbe colours up. Laggard (Tattersall) and Gainsay (Brown), the latter having considerably tho worse of the poundage, ran a comfortable seven furlongs in 1.36. Gainsay is.now approaching racing trim. Cloudy Bay (Chaplin) and Hunting Lodge (Broughton) finished on terms, with Happy Hunting (Anderson) half-a-length back over six furlongs in 1.19 4-5, the first three in 38 2-ss. Cloudy Bay had tho best of tho weights, and Hunting Lodge went very well throughout. Bazaine (R. Feasey) and Lo Touquet (Anderson) jumped away at the six furlongs, running the first three in 39 3-ss. Le Touquet dropped out of the running, leaving Bazaino to complete journey in 1.21 1-5. Le Touquet is now quartered at Awapuni. Beaulack (Chaplin) and Aurora's Love (Pino) strode along over three furlongs in 42 2-os. The former is a two-year-old sister to Palm, while the latter is a daughter of Aurora Borealis. Party (Brown) was under a firm hold throughout, but she quickened up over the last three furlongs to como home in 41 2-ss. The two-year-olds Wild Flower (Tattersall) and Tipsy Miss (Broughton) showed a good turn of speed by leaving three furlongs behind iu 38 3-ss. Oriwai (C. The Crooner (Anderson) under a firm hold ran three furlongs in 40 l-ss. This colt is showing much promise. Patter (W. Scobio), who will have her first race for the season at Feilding, ran her first furlong in 15s, but quickened up to complete half-a-mile in 555. Corroboree (R. Chisholm) jumped away at the mile post, to run at a steady 15s to the furlong. He quickened up in the straight to completo his full task in 1.58. Ho was full of running at tho close. Lavish (Scobie) required 28s for her first two furlongs, but came home the last three in 40s.

Lady Ina will not compete at Levin on Saturday.

LIKELY HANDICAP HORSE PROSPECTS OF WILLIE WIN One of the unlucky horses of last week's racing at Riccarton was Willie Win, who ran three good races for. no bettor reward than a second and a third. His performance in finishing second to Mandamus in the Otaio Plate after getting none the best of the start was very encouraging and indicated that success over a middle distance in open company might not be beyond him. Trained by Mrs. J. Campbell, Willie Win is a five-year-old gelding by Polazel from Miss Florence, by Masterpiece from Prayer Wheel, by Pilgrim's Progress from Catherine Wheel, by Maxim from Miss Kate, by Adventurer. Willie Win comes from the same family as Phfir Lap and his breeding suggests that ho will stay fairly well. He should be worth keeping in mind for races ahead. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Every jockey in the Melbourne Cup was fined £1 by the starter, Mr. Rupert Greene. Valmint has been showing signs of lameness and lias been an absentee from the Ellerslie tracks during the past week. Win and place betting will be tho order for week-end racing at To llapa and Invercargill, while the singlo pool will bo used at Levin. Cay Roy has entered tho stable of J. P. Coylo at Awapuni. It is understood that his previous trauior, J. Proctor, Foxton, has given up training. Oratory, Chief Ranger and Great Hope, who have returned from Australia, may race at Fcilding. Oratory receives lib. from Pakanui in the Flying Handicap. A newcomer to Ellerslie is a neatlooking two-year-old filly by Aero from Wairarapa, who is under the care of W. Fergus. Wairarapa is the dam of Auriculus, Mauriacna, Waimuri and tho Avondale Stakes winner To Waipu. A year ago Kindheart suffered serious injuries in tho Juvenile Stakes at Foilding, his second start. He has been weighted for the Fitzroy Hack Handicap at 8,9, or 161b. above the minimum, although he has not raced in the interim. Flower, who has not raced for over two years, has been acquired by Mr. J. Shingleton, TitaJii Ray, from Mr. H. Marshall, who bought the mare from tho estate of tho late Mr. W. H. Ballinger. Flower has been nominated for meetings ahead. In case Cuddle does not fulfil expectations in her preparation for tho Auckland Cup, Might will bo held in reserve for Ellerslie, but if tho mare goes on as she has been doing. Might is likely to be given his chance in the Manawatu Cup on Boxing Day. ' Footmark, who was bought privately in the Dominion last autumn on behalf of "Mr. S. V. Stannel," ran second in his first raco at Perth three weeks ago to Enchanter, brother to last season's champion, Jongleur. Footmark is by Dofoo from Bachelor's Picture, the dam of Elgindalo and Bachelor Song.

Troy, who finished second in tho Two-vcar-old Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday, is a bay colt by Chief Ruler from tho Limond—Bonny Portland mare Helen, dam also of Tizzy. He races in the colours of Sir James A. Murdoch, who secured him at tho last Trenthain sales for 525 guinea#.
