FINANCE FOR REPAIRS MINISTER REFUSES AID [hy telegraph—OWN correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Wednesday Notification that the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. 11. Semple, had refused the Hobson County Council's application for assistance in repairing flood damage, was contained in a letter from the department received at a meeting of the council yesterday. The letter stated that the Minister took the view that the Hobson County was in a reasonably sound position, and that any difficulty in the matter would arise only from the fact of the county being worked in ridings. Therefore tho euro would bo in tho abolition of that unsatisfactory system. The chairman, Mr. V. Trounson, gave notice of motion that tho abolition of riding rat-es and the consolidation of rates generally should be considered at the next meeting.
