LORD MAYOR'S SHOW

POSTERS JETTISONED GRIM REMINDERS OF WAR LONDON, Nov. t> The London Transport Board scrapped 6000 posters which had been displayed in tube stations to advertise the Lord Mayor's Show, as it feared that the public would interpret them as glorifying war. The board originally proposed to use a poster embodying a golden coach, but when it was found that the show would be a military parade, it substituted a machine-gun, as reflecting the character of the occasion. It now admits that this was a mistake, as the poster, though artistically excellent, was too grim a reminder of the signiiicance of modern warfare.
