FLUNKET SHIELD DATES INSURING AGAINST INJURY CAPABILITIES OF UMPIRES A suggestion that the New Zealand Council should he written to asking whether it intended to call for nominations for the pir.it ion of manager of the New Zealand team to visit next year was made hy Mr. 11. Duncan at last evening's meeting ol' the management committee of the Auckland ( rickct Association. Several members opposed such a move, the discussion heing taken in committee. It. was agreed to take no official action in the matter. Advice was received from the Otago Association that, it v.as agreeable to commence its I*l mikrt Shield match against Auckland at Dunedin on December HI. An iii(|iiiry was received from the North Shore Club regarding the necessity for insuring its ground against the possibility of personal injury or damage to property. The club drew attention to the decision of the Court in a recent case where a golf club was held responsible for injury to a person who was struck by a ball hit by a member of the club. Mr. Duncan stated that he understood that any responsibility in cases of this kind rested with the owners of the ground, in which case the North Shore <'l üb, us lessee, had no cause for worry, lie suggested, however, that (tie club, if it had an.v doubts on the i|iiestion, should seek legal advice. 11 was agreed to write to the club on the lines suggested by Mr. Duncan. A report was received that a number of schools were taking advantage of the primary schools' coaching scheme. The' committeo resolved to semi a letter of sympathy to 13. B. Edmonds, the North Shore and Auckland wicketkeeper, who was operated on for appendicitis last week. Mr. Duncan complained that captains of senior elevens were not forwarding regular reports on tlu capabilities of umpires controlling their respective games. Delegates were asked to bring the subject under the notice of their clubs. lteporting for the country committee, Mr. L. 15. Schnaner outlined a scheme whereby it is hoped to run two tournaments during Christmas. As a result of the scheme drawn up by Mr. W. G. Miller, an attempt would be made to organise an Auckland provincial tournament, in which the North Auckalnd, South Auckland, Poverty Hay and Suburban Associations would be invited to enter teams. The tournament would last eight days. It was also proposed to hold the usual ('ountry Week tournament. It was decided to approve the proposals put forward by the country committee and to empower that body to circularise the various minor associations regarding the tournaments. The amendment to the rules governing oneday matches, in cases where rain on the first day had prevented play, _by means of which it is intended that the batting time on the secftnd day be equally divided with a view to providing brighter cricket was suggested by Mr. E. E. Nalder. He gave notice of his intention to call a special meeting of delegates with a view to having the alteration effected. After considerable discussion, the committee decided to recommend the alteration for consideration at a special meeting of delegates on December 1. The lollowing transfers were approved:— W. J.
