The lastnamed, who worked in saddle, was responsible lor a very smart mile in 2. la 1-5. Kewpie's Uingeii (J. Gee) went away live seconds ahead of Kewpie's Crest ( \\ . Gee) and eight seconds before Star I'ronto (li. Dyer) for a mile ami a-half the reverse way, .Kewpie's Crest heing alongside the leader at the mile in 2..51. Alter passing the mile and a-(|iiartej' in 3.16 Kewpie's Ui >.gen was cased and Star I'ronto made a forward move, lie finished fast to slide Kewpie's Crest in and run the last half in 1.5 2-5. Star I'ronto was always going smoothly and put dash into his iinal ellort. Kewpie's Crest ran 3.11 1-5 after going leisurely in the early part, lie hung on solidly in the run home, recording 1.7 1-5 for the last half-mile. Bingcn Crest (\Y. C. Willetts) did strong work and is definitely on the upgrade. Kewpie's King Pleases John's Last (D. Smith) led Gold Pointer (X. Carlyon), with Kewpie's King (C. 11. Goodall) going three seconds later, but Gold Pointer broke early and was soon well back. John's Last led to the mile and a-quarter in 3.0 and was pulled up, leaving Kewpie's King to go alone to the mile and a-half in 3.31 2-5, the last half in 1.6 2-5. John's Last gave a fine display for a novice, showing a good turn of speed from the mile. Cliarteris J3ay (A." Cole), in saddle, sprinted two furlongs in 335. Accompanied hy Queenie Direct (.G. Cole), who was galloped, Cliarteris Bay then ra i a mile in 2.13 4-5. He reached the half-mile in 1.6 and the six furlongs in 1.38 2-5. The last halt showed 1.7 4-5. Cliarteris Bay was stopping in the last quarter in 35 2-5, this being his slowest fection. Dick Redmond (A. Brown), assisted hy Gay Sister t'D. Cook), trotted the last mile of a mile and a-half in 2.35 3-5. He gave a faultless display and was not hard pressed to return 1.16 for the final section. Gay Sister, who is putting on condition, was keen to increase the speed. Dilfashion Improving Silver Watch (J. Mahonev) worked <i mile and five furlongs at about a 2.30 rate, sprinting home the last three furlongs in 535. Dilfashion <D. 0. Jones) trotted two miles without a mistake in 4.53, equalling his handicap. The first mile took 2.29 and the next 2.24, the last half, 1.10 4-5, being his fastest section. He has improved with racing. Aerial Bell (C. G. Lee) was not extended while working a mile and a-half at a 2.38 gait, the last half, in 1.16. being her best. The reverse way, she ran a mile and a-quarter at a 2.30 rate. Travis (.J. Peters), unhoppled, accompanied the Ringtrue—Jntaglio filly (L. Laver) over two circuits. The Ringtrue filly is furnishing nicely and has a good style.

AUCKLAND TROTS

NORTHERN DERBY CONTEST TO BE RUN IN DECEMBER It was thought- desirable by the Auckland Trotting Club in the interests of the sport and owners to alter the date for the running of the Great Northern Trotting Derby from the club's December meeting to tho meeting to be held in February, 1937, and owners were notified accordingly. It is regretted that certain technical difficulties have arisen which prevent the club from meeting owners in this respect and it is necessary to revert to the original conditions of the race. Owners are now advised that tho Derby referred to will be run on the -ccoiid day at the club's December meeting, i 9.36. The second payment and the final payment will now become due and payable on Friday, December 4, 19.'36, when general nominations for the summer meeting will be taken. The full programme for the summer meeting will he published within tho next few days. WOODVILLE TRACK NEWS FULL THROTTLE FOR LEVIN [from our own correspondent] WOODVILLE, Monday H. E. Russell is expected back from Sydney on Wednesday with Mala aud Golden Treasure. It is possible that Mala will run in the Great Northern Derby at Ellerslie and his presence should add great interest to the contest. •f. Sullivan has lately added to his team the Cockpit gelding Full Throttle. Engaged in tho McDonald Memorial at Levin on Saturday, Full Throttlo is looking in great order and has been working pleasingly since taking up his new quarters. The other Levin candidate from tho j-nmo stable is Snowball, who claims an engagement in tho principal event. Tho Lord Quex mare has been galloping very attractively, but was showing slight signs of soreness toward the end of the week and her trip may now be in doubt. F. Davis' team returned from Riccarton on Thursday without waiting lor the final day. The two-year-old Francis Drake took little haiin from his trip and is furnishing into a fine colt. Several offers have been made for him on behalf of would-be buyers, but his owner, Mr. F. Armstrong, does not feci disposed to part with him. Hit? next appearance will bo in tho Great Northern Foal Stakes at Christmas. Plato, who was responsible for good form at both Trentham and I?iccarton. is much more solid this season and looks a likely candidate for tho Railway Handicap. The three-year-old Mandamus showed something of what has been expected of him when lie scored in the Otaio Plate at Riccarton. The performance was very good under the circumstances as his preparation had been somewhat interrupted. The Limond gelding is not of the robust type at present and requires careful handling, but, time •should work improvement in him. The sprinter Karl, who was given a short let-up after Wellington, is again back on the tracks and is infusing plenty of dash into his work. Karl raced well hut unluckily at Trentham and his next appearance will be nt Feilding next week, when he should hold good prospects in tho sprint events. One of the most improved two-year-olds working at present is Geira. After her promising debut at Masterton, Geira was expected to bo a winner at Wellington, but she did not do as well as expected. The filly has shown more than average promise and will probably have lier next outing at tho Woodvino meeting early next month. Red Manfred has freshened up well since racing at Wellington, where his form did not come up to expectations. 11c is working pleasingly at present and will probably be included in F. Davis' team for Auckland at Christmas.
