OBITUARY

MR. R. E. LAYBOURN The death has occurred of Mr. Robert Elliott Laybourn. of Hikurangi, at the age of 75. He arrived in Auckland early in 1861 with his parents, INIr. and Mrs. Adam Laybourn, and shortly afterwards the family went to Komokoriki. where Mr. A. Laybourn engaged in farming and flaxmiiling. Mr. R. E. Laybourn was educated at the Parnell school and continued his studies at the model training college conducted by tho late Mr. Josiali Martin. After spending several years in Australia gaining experience at station work, Mr. Laybourn returned to New Zealand to assist his father in a produce warehouse which he had established. Later, with his older brother, he managed a store at Waiorongomai. From there he went to Owharoa, near Wnihi. during the mining boom, and afterward ho took a number of drainage contracts on (he Hauraki Plains. Finally ho settled at Hikurangi. where he was engaged in coalmining. Mr. Laybourn is survived by his widow, five sons and two daughters. MRS. T. LYFORD [BY TF.r.ECRAPH —OWN CORRKSPONDKNT] INCLEWOOD. Tuesday The death has occurred of an old resident of Taranaki, Mrs. T. Lyfofd, aged 77 years. She was for many years one of tho finest horsewomen on the hunting fields in Canterbury. Mr. Moore arrived in New Zealand when he was 21 and entered the drapery business in Napier 50 years ago. lie then joined a similar business in Gisborne. Taking up farming, he became a leading Jersey breeder in the district. i
