SHAREBROKER REMANDED
ALLEGATIONS OF THEFT. SUM OF £l9lß INVOLVED £BY TELEGRAPH —TKESS ASSOCIATION'] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday Eight charges of theft involving £l9lß 8s 6d were laid against William Wallace McClelland, a sharebroker, aged 52, in the Magistrate's Court this morning. On the application of ChiefDetective W. H. Dunlop, McClelland tvas remanded until November 25. Mr. £. D. Mosley, S.M., was on tho % Bench. The chief detective said that McClelland had been sentenced already on another charge. Several of tho files in connection with the other charges had gone to Australia, while accused claimed that tho money involved had heen sent to firms in Australia which he said had gone bankrupt. The chief detective said that he would like to clear the whole matter up at one sitting. Tho Magistrate: What is behind these charges? Tho Chief Detective: The police will say the money was taken for investment in shares, which was not done. There is a total of about £2876 involved. McClelland was then remanded.
