EVENING RECEPTION DISTINGUISHED VISITORS In honour of the Marquess of Ilartington, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs and Marchioness of Hartington, a reception was given by the Auckland branch of the Royal Empire Society in the Lyceum Club last evening. The beautiful lounge of the club, with its rose velvet hangings, was looking particularly attractive with large bowls of vivid gladioli in tones of scarlet and mauve, while largo floating bowls of roses and delicatc-hucd sweet peas were arranged above the fireplaces and on the central tables. The guests were received by Professor F. P. Worley, chairman of the council of the Royal Empire Society, and Mrs. Worley and by Lady Wilson. Lady Hartington was wearing a trained frock of ivory crepe patterned in a floral design in blue and rose with a sable fur wrap; Lady Wilson wore a frock of black dclustred satin relieved with diamante; and Mrs. Worley was in rose and gold patterned lame. Other guests included Miss Gertrude Drayton, C.8.E., general secretary of the Victoria League, London, in cicl blue cire satin; Mrs. F. Jones, wife of the Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, in maroon satin, and Miss Isa Downie, daughter of the Hon. W. Downie, of Rhodesia, in beige patterned georgette. Interspersed with the addresses were songs by Miss Winifred Hill and Mr. F. Baker, and violin solos by Mrs. F. Greenfield.
