EXHIBITION OF ART
| CONTEMPORARY WORKS BRITISH EMPIRE PICTURES [by TELEGRAPH—rRKSS association] WELLINGTON, Monday In connection with the proposed Empire art exhibition in London during the coronation period, the UnderSecretary of Internal Affairs recently received a letter from the High Commissioner advising that the Royal British and Colonial Society of Artists proposed to hold in May an exhibition in London of contemporary works of art from all parts of the British Empire. A request was made that a committee should bo sot up in New Zealand to bring the matter under the notice of the Dominion artists, and organise to this end. The Association of New Zealand Art Societies has advised the Government that it has agreed to act as agent and do its best to further the project. Art societies will be asked to submit selected works of artists for final selection by a committee appointed by the association. The idea of the promoters of the exhibition is that the interests of societies of artists rather than of national galleries shall be enlisted.
