GOOD SIX BY SURELLA INVER DEFEATS VALAMITO ELAN AGE'S SMART SPRINT The middle grass, with the polos out 18ft., was used for fast work at Takanini yesterday and the going was fairly good. The plough was also in excellent order. On the plough Kurnpao commenced proceedings with strong work. Tie should he very fit when asked to race. Lapis Lazuli, was let off with pace work, and the same applied to Acre Up, who, with Lap TTp and the two-year-old Disturbed, was at the barrier on Wednesday morning. Disturbed did not misbehave himself, as at Avondale; in fact with his trainer D. U. Burgess in the saddle, ho was quite amenable to discipline. P. Iv Pope's bay filly by Tea Tray, Kbb and Flow, Maori Boy and Housemaster, all did serviceable work. On the grass, Warwick Lad and the Drolatique filly were companions over five furlongs in 1.6 4-5, the first two in 26 4-sa. Warwick Lad was going slightly, the better at the finish. Inver, who is shaping really well, had the better of Palamito over six furlongs in 1.19. Inver looks fit and should race well at Ellerslie. Dutiful and Terrapie ran five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. Surella ran the best six furlongs of the morning in 1.17 1-5, being assisted over the last three furlongs in 3!) 3-5s by the Acre—Mary Sara gelding. Surella was stopping a. little at the finish, having run his first three furlongs in 37 2-ss. Flood Tide, looking very fit, went seven furlongs with Nun Nicer (light boy) in 1.34, the first two in 28s. This was a good, even gallop. Love Parade was too good for the Lysander— Inlaid gelding over three furlongs in 395, finishing a length and a-half ahead. Love Parade is beginning to show more speed. Wait and See was given two lengths' start by Gay Talkie, who beat her by three lengths over five furlongs in the smart time of 1.4 4-5, the first two in 25 2-5. Gay Talkie was ridden out. Wait and See is not at her best yet. High Quality and Spearcourt, with his trainer in the saddle, ran six furlongs in 1.19 3-5, the first three in 395. Latharna and Kaiwaka were timed to run the last five of six furlongs in 1.6 3-5. Royal Passage and Dark Marble did strong work, with a fast brush up the straight. Palustre, looking exceptionally bright, eamo right away from Mai do Mer while running four furlongs in 51 1-os, tho last three in 38 l-ss. W. Bartle rode Palustre and kept her up to her work. Precise went at threequarter pace, from tho five furlongs, and sprinted up the straight. The two-year-olds High Sea and Silver Glow ran three furlongs in 41s. The former is a good mover and was going the better at the finish. Elanage was too good for Lord Wyllonyx over half a mile in 50 3-ss, a smart gallop. Merry Lap and Keith Lu shaped well over two hurdles. Lap Up fenced brilliantly over four hurdles, Benighted going with him over the first two. Both these horses are working well.
