SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION SATISFACTORY STANDARD Recognising that we are not the only sporting body that experienced a lean season, it would not be in accordance with the progressive aims of the association to accept the position of last season in a spirit of misgiving, stated the report presented at the annual meeting of the Auckland (Jitv and Suburban Cricket Association last evening. In many respects the season was disappointing, hut a redeeming feature was the fact that the standard of cricket in all grades was quite satisfactory. One of the greatest drawbacks was tne fact that the association had been unable to secure recognition from the New Zealand Cricket Council, more especially in that it affected the association's eligibility "or tn» Hawke Cup competition for minor associations. The association's activities were complicated by the large number of small associations being formed in Auckland. > The first section, of the assQciation t> senior competition was keenly contested and finality was not reached until the last matcn of tho season, when Manukau and Green Lano finished with equal points and were bracketed. Harbour Board and Dilwortn Old Boys were bracketed for the honours in tne second section of the senior competition. Two outstanding individual performances were recorded in the senior section. N. Martin, of the Manukau Club, secured 100 wickets at an average of b.15, this being the first occasion in the history of the association on which the 100 wickets mark had been reached. C Kerr, of Green Lane, finished with a batting average of 70. The congratulations of the association were offered to these two players. . , A representative team visited various centres and took part in several enjoyable games. The services of the professional coach, L. F. Townsend, were again available to the association through the courtesy of tho Auckland Cricket Association. Although the expenses were rather heavy last season the committee was pleased to record that a cash balance remained. Income for the season was £32(5 7s 4d, while expenditure totalled £270 9s 11d. leaving a credit balance of £55 17s sd. ' The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected:— Patron, the Mayor, Mr. Ernest T)avis; president, Mr. J. Elliott: vice-presidents, the same as «last year, with the addition of Mr. 11. Johnson; honorary auditors, Messrs. A. Cowan and F. Cooper. , , The services rendered by the umpires last season were eulogised by Mr. .T. F. W. Hickson, and a vote of appreciation was passed.
