OBITUARY

SIR PERCIVAL CLARKE LONDON SESSIONS CHAIRMAN (Received October 15, 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Oct. f> The sudden death occurred to-day of Sir Percival Clarke, chairman of the County of London Sessions, aged 64. Sir Percival Clarke was the eldest son of the late Sir Edward Clarke, K.C. He was married in 1904 to Miss Norma Whallev, daughter of Dr. Octavius Whalley, of Sydney. He was educated at Eton and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and was called to the Bar. Lincoln's Inn, in 1894. At one time he \v,as senior counsel to the Crown at the Central Criminal Court. He served as a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in the European war.

Sir Percival was a Beucher of Lincoln's Inn, 1925, Recorder of Exeter, 1922-32, and had been chairman of the County of London Sessions since 1932. DR. JULIUS GOEMBOES PREMIER OF HUNGARY

(Received October 7, 12.35 a.m.) MUNICH, Oct. 6 The death has occurred of Dr. Julius Goembces, Prime Minister of Hungary, after a long illness. Dr. Julius Goemboes de Jakfa was born in 1886 and was educated at the military schools in Pecs and Vienna. During the Great War he took part in the campaigns against Serbia and Russia. After the Armistice, Dr. Goemboes became president of the Hungarian Defence Association, and played an important part in organising the counter revolution that overthrew the Communist Dictatorship of Bela Kun in l yl9 - . „ , The following year Dr. Goemboes was elected to the Hungarian Parliament. Fie was instrumental in frustrating the attempts made by Charles IV. to return to tho throne. From 1923 to 1928 he was the leader of the Race-Defence Party, but he joined the Unionist Party and was rewarded with the portfolio of Defence. Dr. Goemboes had held this post for four years when he became Prime Minister in 1932.
