SUPPLY OF LEMONS
SHORTAGE NOT LIKELY LARGE QUANTITIES IN STORE The opinion that there was no foundation in the fears expressed in some quarters of the possibility of a shortage of local lemons within the next few months was expressed by a leading Auckland fruit merchant yesterday. There were large quantities in store in the packing houses, he said, and there should be sufficient to last well over Christmas. The fruit was in good condition and the public need have no fear of a scarcity. The fact that the chief demand for lemons existed during the winter months, when the fruit was required for lemon drinks for colds, was stressed by another dealer. He pointed out that with a wide range of fruit available during the summer months lemons were not so eagerly sought. Supplies at present were quite adequate to meet the demand and the market was rather weak as far as lemons were concerned. It was surprising how the fruit came forward from outlying districts when prices firmed, and it could be stated with confidence that sufficient quantities would be available to meet the demand throughout the next three or four months.
