Sterling) beat The Pioneer, who carried a light weight, in tho best mile trial of the season on the tail. They ran 1.45 J. Gilt covered a mile in 1.47. The Bustard, who looks well, did a serviceable task on the tan. Favourite Son (A. Stephens) ran nine furlongs in 2.1 and went weli. Gay Lover did pace work. He looks well after his Sydney trip. Arachne, who has recovered, strode over live furlongs in 1.7£. • Journal and lioyal Melody have arrived. Siren did a steady task. Dick Devon ran a strong mile, Allendale has gone to Adelaide to run in the South Australian Derby. Gay Blonde is a likely runner in the Caulfield Cup. Conditions wore ideal for galloping at Caulfield on the steeplechase grass. Dark Sky and Beechwood finished together for a record seven furlongs in 1.27.',. The first half-mile took 47is and the first six furlongs 1.14. Charles Fox did a stylish six furlongs in 1.15.

North Wind and Boongary recorded the best mile in 1.46, Kiddle defeated Othello in a splendid four furlongs in 495. The first two furlongs took 2-ls. Prince Quex concluded his work with half a mile in 53£s. Sculpin, who took 1.16 for six furlongs, looks well. Aurie's Star ran five in 1.22, and Toltec seven in 1.32.

Oratory did pace work and Cuddle was cantered.

Chief Hanger defeated Great Hope over six furlongs in 1.21. The former looks much improved. Mitsui and Link Divine recorded for half a mile.

Golden Promise proved he had recovered from bis recent injury by galloping a mile brilliantly in 1.46 at Epsom to-day. Shakespeare will arrive in Melbourne to-morrow with a view to contesting the Caulfield Guineas. Silver Standard arrives on Friday to be prepared for the Caulfield Cup, and Prittle Prattle is coining for the Cantala Stakes. Conandale, who is suffering from a ricked muscle, showed slight improvement to-day, but he is still a doubtful starter in the Caulfield Cup.

This action was taken in consorinonce of the pronouncement of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. JC. Parry, that his recommendation in regard to tho imposition of a 7.7 minimum in races should not apply this year to the New Zealand and Auckland Cups.
