THE CRICKET ASHES
ENGLISH TEAM'S PROSPECTS "I do not think England will recover the 'ashes' against a side that contains Bradman, McCabe, Fingleton, O'Reilly and Grinimett," writes Neville Card us, the well-known English critic. "None the less, .! am certain that, whether England wins or loses, the team will piay attractively and in a fine, keen spirit. Although the contemporary average of all-round skill is low, there aro one or two pleasant peaks on tho general plain—in fact, 1 am prepared to go so far as to say that the next England side will include four or five of the most gifted and interesting cricketers to visit Australia for many years. This English team will not, 1 think, win the rubber: it will certainly win the affection and applause of all Australian lovers of happy and stylish cricket." Ho describes the bowling as, "speculative" and confesses to a lack of confidence in the fielding.
