CHARGE AGAINST MAORI
MURDER ATTEMPT ALLEGED STATEMENT BY POLICE [by telegraph OWN correspondent] WANGANTJI. Tuesday An alleged domestic dispute at tho Maori settlement of Putiki, Wanganui, on Saturday night resulted in the arrest yesterday of Matthew Hill, aged 31, a Maori, and his appearance before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., to-day, on a charge of attempting to murder his wife, Alice Hill.
Detective-Sergeant Robertson said accused was charged with attempted murder arising out of a domestic tangle. There was no reason to anticipate a recurrence. Tho wife left tho house, but returned later on Saturday night and the parties had lived there until accused was arrested. A remand was granted until October 14. Bail was fixed at £2OO and two sureties of £IOO, accused to report daily to the police.
