SWIMMING BATH

PAPATOETOE PROPOSAL POSITION MISINTERPRETED TOWN BOARD'S DISCUSSION Objection to the attitude adopted by the Papatoetoe Ratepayers' Welfare League toward tho scheme for a proposed open-air swimming bath was taken last evening at a meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board. Mr. W. A. Cairns said the Papatoetoe Chamber of Commerce, which had sponsored the scheme, had asked the Town Board to say whether it would allocate a suitablo site and had not suggested that the board should incur any expense in that connection. It was incorrect to say that the Papatoetoe ratepayers probably would have to face capital outlay to provide benefits for ratepayers in the Manukau county. Tho sponsors of the bath scheme required an assurance that a site would be forthcoming and would bo available for a period of from four to fivo years in order to enable funds to bo raised. Tho chairman, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, said the , board had been asked only to co-operate and tho chairman of the Reserves Committee had been authorised 'to confer with the Chamber of Commerce. That position still held. It was decided to leave the question of a site for the consideration of a conference of the Reserves Committee and the Chamber of Commerce.
