POSITION IN DARGAVILILE APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] BARGAVILLE, Tuesday The serious housing shortage in Dargavillo and its adverse effect oh the town was discussed at a meeting oif the Dargaville Chamber of Commerce last night. It was decided to bring the matter to the notice of the Dargaville Borough Council,'the Government, and tho member of Parliament for the district, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. "1* think it would be in order to ask the Borough Council to make a comprehensive report on housing," said the president of the chamber, Mr. C. L. Bagnall. "Recent legislation dealing with housing places tho responsibility 011 the local authority to make a survey and advise tho Government of housing requirements of its area. The Borough Council should bo asked to go into the matter and give a lead regarding what it proposes should be done to meet the acute position." Mr. A. Costello said the Dargaville branch of the Labour Party had made representations to the Government in this connection. He suggested the chamber should support this action. A motion was carried drawing the attention of tho Government to the shortage of houses and supporting the representations of the Labour Party branch.
