PLAY ON SUNDAYS
BOWLING AND TENNIS DECISION AT OTAHUHU PROTESTS FROM CHURCHES Sunday play in bowling and tennis will be introduced this season at Otaliuliu, where the two public clubs have decided on the innovation. A meeting of tlio Otahuhu Bowling Club was hold on Monday night to deal specially with a proposal for Sunday play. Letters protesting against the extension of play to include Sundays were received from two local churches and from the local branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Opposition to tlio proposal was raised by several members of the club, some of whom claimed that the bowling green would not stand tlio additional wear and tear. A ballot was taken and the proposal to permit play between the hours of ]..'50 and 6 o'clock on Sundays was carried by 18 votes to 11. The new rule will become effective after the official opening of the season. Tlio extension of playing hours to include Sundays was carried by a large majority at a recent meeting of the Otahuhu Tennis Club.
An impression existed in Otahuhu for some time that the terms on which tlio grounds were held prohibited play on other than week-days. This was recently found to be erroneous. It was learned that the titlo to tlio ground was unrestricted, and that the matter was one solely for tho judgment of members.
